Cabo Roig “Red Cape” – Costa Blanca
Having walked the Coastal route from La Zenia to Cabo Roig, we decided this week to venture back to Cabo Roig, and spend a little time down on the beach. Having parked the car in the small car park overlooking the beach, we were confronted with a beautiful yacht that was moored a little out to sea. Despite being a little cloudy (it was on 7.45am) the views were breathtaking we were even able to see La Manga off in the distance.
At the ‘mirador’ was a little green beach, and was a perfect place to sit and gaze out to sea. To be honest this is a great place to come and watch the sun rise. After taking a couple of photographs we walked down onto the beach. Access to the Cabo Roig beach/Playa La Caleta is down a slope or steps. Cabo Roig means “Red Cape” in the Catalan. It was inspired by the colour of the cliffs especially prominent when seen at sunrise or sunset. The beach is a sandy beach in a small cove and has been awarded a Blue Flag for high standards of quality of both the water and beach cleanliness.
Although the on-shore wind was a little cold this morning, Cabo Roig beach/Playa La Caleta is sheltered from the wind by the high cliffs around it. Next to the Cabo Roig Marina is the La Bahia restaurant, a great location for a meal, or just to sit out under the umbrellas enjoying the great view of the beach and the cliffs. Although we didn’t go and have a coffee at La Bahia, it is a place we will definitely visit.
Although there was seaweed on the shore near the rocky outcrop leading a little out to sea, this only added to the appeal of Cabo Roig beach/Playa La Caleta, especially at 8.00 in the morning. From here we could see further south along the coastline which is made up of low cliffs, with rocky outcrops. The cliffs are pretty weather worn, making for interesting shapes and colours.
Cabo Roig is a lovely little beach in a secluded cove next to the Marina. This is a photographers dream as the sunrise is stunning and the views are a wonder to be captured.
