La Mata, on Spains Costa Blanca
One of the main features of La Mata has to be its spectacular beach which stretches for miles with some fabulous walkways and pine forrest. It's a great place for long weekends in an apartment (many of them are front line with fantastic sea views) and villa holidays if you are unable to be long term resident in La Mata.
La Mata has an excellent bus service which runs into Torrevieja on a regular basis but also includes routes to Alicante's El Altet airport. La Mata has a very good street market every Wednesday and there are some superb bars and restaurants surrounding the square in La Mata town and on La Mata beachfront. There are fiestas throughout the year in La Mata but the most notable one is in May.
La Mata comes alive when the "casetas" are put up around the harbour and horses are paraded around La Mata town. The association of the Virgin del Rocio in La Mata organises a "Romeria" or pilgrimage in honour of the Virgin del Rocio on the last Saturday and Sunday of May. Not to be missed!
La Mata has everything for residencial living, a long weekend break, a family holiday or an action packed trip to this beautiful part of Spain. For families with children, La Mata offers the Ozone Centro de Ocio for bowling, arcade games, cinema and clubs, horse riding around the famous salt lakes, Go Karting in Playa Flamenca or the Aquapolis water park in Torrevieja just 7 minutes drive south. There is a safari park at Elche, or just sit by the pool at your villa or sunbathe at the beautiful golden sandy beach of La Mata. There are plenty of very peaceful places tucked away in La Mata and a really pleasant community atmosphere with native Spaniards blending comfortably with the ex-pat community and tourists alike. La Mata has so much going for it and yet it is still possible to find good bargain properties for around 100,000 euros.
